Faster PedalPals is an offshoot from Bike50 . We organise a programme of regular road rides for those wishing to improve their road riding skills and want to cycle a little bit further and a little bit faster.

The rides start from various venues and take place on quiet roads and lanes around Surrey, Hampshire, Berkshire and West Sussex and give riders a chance to see and explore the wider countryside and pretty villages. It may be necessary to use busy roads for short periods to cross from one minor road to another and occasionally use will be made of established well surfaced bike paths suitable for road or hybrid bikes.

The rides are led by experienced road riders and can vary from half day jaunts covering 25-30 miles which include a stop at a café for light refreshment to a full day out covering 40-50+ miles including a lunch stop and perhaps a café stop as well. The rides typically average about 12 - 13mph and, given the local geography, will almost certainly involve hills.

The ride leader may decide that the number of riders warrants having a back marker and if so will ask for a volunteer. Back markers are usually experienced riders who are familiar with the route and can ensure that no-one gets left behind during the ride.

If you are new to road riding you are welcome to taste these rides using your mountain bike but if you intend to ride regularly on the road a road bike or hybrid is strongly recommended to enable you to maintain the same pace as the group. You are also advised to wear a helmet; kerbstones are unlikely to break when hit by the human body.
